The impact of output mediums is constantly evolving and
changing, the designs and the look of the graphics have evolved and are getting
better and safer to use and much more portable. In the past output technology
was chunkier, possibly more hazardous to use and it causes a lot of stress to
use every day, with the new technology it has made graphic computer users life
way easier.
The output mediums that I will be talking about and how
they changed over the years are printers, monitors and mobile phones.
Printers:
Printers have changed and evolved massively over the
years, the first printers were extremely slow and big and they wasted a lot of
space and they were very expensive, they were used mainly by printing presses
because they could afford these printers and have enough space for them.
Printers started off being manually handled and in offices there would be a
position that solely works on the printers and nothing else. This made the
printers slow and they had a lot of limitations because they could only keep
going for some time because they were powered by steam. Now printers have a
wide variety of uses and they come in a lot of different designs and many models
to choose from, you can start from dye-sublimation printers, to photocopiers, all
the way to laser printers and ink jet printers. Still printers have continued
to evolve they have become smaller and as the size have decreased so have the
prices and they are now available to anyone and instead of taking up space on
the floor it takes up less space on a desk and are a lot cheaper. But there are
specific printers for Graphic Designers and business instead of document users,
these can cost up to £40,000.
Monitors:
Monitors have changed rapidly and have greatly evolved
in their appearance, size and hardware and new features. When the first series
of monitors came out they were bulky and the only colours that where displayed
were black, white and green, which caused a lot of eye problems in those times.
Only large organisations used these computers when they first were produced
because they were too big to be used for everyday life and were too expensive
to be bought by normal everyday people, they were known as CTR monitors and
this stands for Cathode Ray Tube. This piece of equipment was extremely
dangerous to be used in monitors because it gave of poisonous gases if the
monitor was on too long. Now you can buy extremely thin monitors that are much
safer, made of better pieces that will last for quite a while and it offers way
better quality.
Monitors were mostly made of LCD which is liquid
crystal display, this ensures the quality of the monitor is always high and the
pixels are high in resolution so they won’t show up on the monitor and you
won’t be able to see the screen. You can also buy LCD monitors
these are really thin and it stands for light-emitting diode, this would give
out a light at the back of the TV/ Monitors, this means that the size can be
reduced, the quality and graphics can be greatly increased and it can be made
paper thin and it saves money. Now games can be played on monitors like TV and
computers with very high graphics and they look extremely realistic and are
extremely complicated games that TV’s before the technology evolved would not
be able to handle them and would not be able to play the games or handle the
systems that required.
Mobile Phones:
Mobile
phones have extremely changed and evolved for the better they were called bricks
before the technology upgrade that changed every piece of technology, mobile
phones were way bigger than they are now, they were in the way, they were heavy
and bulky ant their battery life did not last long and you could only call
people and they couldn’t get that much signal and where still very hard to talk
to someone who is far away for example another country because the old mobile
phones would constantly cut off. The designs of old mobiles were horrible they
had long aerials coming out of the top of the phone and had no screen and
numbers. Now phones have a completely new design they fit in your pocket and do
not take up space, their designs are slick and are no longer bulky and they are
not called a brick anymore instead they are called smart phones, they are
called smart phones because they can hold up to a million things in them like
games, apps, videos, music and pictures and so much more. Mobile phones now
have SD cards this is used in phones so they can store more apps, music and
photos. Mobile phones now have built in cameras they started off with really
bad resolution and the pictures weren’t all that good but now all smart phones
have the latest cameras built in to it and they have the highest quality
available which is up to 12.1 mega pixels, now the cameras in phones are
starting to become just as good as cameras that professionals use. 12.1 mega
pixels is huge this means the quality of the video and pictures are I HD
quality which could not be done until recently also it shows the colours much
better as in before pictures and videos were black and white. Now phones can
transfer things like videos from the internet or computers and the file size aren't that big so the phone can store much more.
Overall I strongly believe that technology has greatly evolved in the years and it will evolve in the future and in won’t be stopping anytime soon, soon I believe that technology will evolve beyond humanities expectations and become how we imagine it and we would be comfortable in using technology for everything that we use and every one could afford technology. All the things that are sifi movies will become a reality and accessible by everyone.
